Polycarbonate lenses

What are Polycarbonate lenses? Polycarbonate is a material used in reading glasses to make them shatter resistant. They help to create a worry free reading glasses.

Finding the Perfect Eyeglass Frames for your Reading Glasses

The way glasses frame the face of men and women is one of the most important aspects of buying reading glasses. The following guidelines will help identify your face shape and the type of eyeglass frame (cat eye, round, rectangle, metal, rimless) that will look perfect on you!

According to the Vision Council of America (VCA), the perfect frame for you means:

  • the shape should contrast with the shape of your face
  • the color should match your best feature (brown eyes, brown frame) and
  • the frame should be to scale with your face size (i.e., giant sunglasses on a tiny face could dwarf you).

There are six basic face shapes: round, oval, oblong, triangle, diamond and square. Match your face shape and then buy your reading glasses accordingly! LA Readers offers a wide range of frames in a variety of styles and colors for all basic face shapes and features.

Is your face round?

No angles, and the width and length is proportionate, like Kate Winslet, Drew Barrymore, Elijah Wood and Jack Black.
Glasses: Rectangle shapes (narrow and angular) to make your face seem longer and your eyes wider. Check out our rectangle-style glasses.

Is your face oval?

A balanced shape, like Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Barry Watson and Jude Law.
Glasses: Most frames look good on this shape, but frames that are as wide, or wider, than the broadest part of your face will look great. Check out our rectangle-style glasses or our striped glasses.

Is your face oblong?

Longer than it is wide, with a longish nose and a straight cheek line, like Gwyneth Paltrow, Kirstie Alley, Eminem and Keifer Sutherland.
Glasses: Look for a frame with a decorated temple (with color, pattern or rhinestones) that will draw attention up. A low bridge also shortens a long nose. Check out our cat eye and jackies glasses or for men, our men's and unisex styles.

Is your face triangular?

There are two types of triangular faces: base down and base up. A base-down triangular face has a narrow forehead that widens at the cheek and chin; a base-up triangular face has a wide forehead that tapers to a narrow cheek and chin, like Minnie Driver, Victoria Beckham, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling.
Glasses: If you have a base-down, look for a frame with a decorated temple (with color, pattern or rhinestones) that will draw attention up—cat eyes look great for this shape. If you have a base-up, look for light-colored, rimless frames. It will draw attention down. Check out our cat eye and jackies glasses, our rhinestone readers or some of our rimless styles.

Is your face diamond-shaped?

Narrow at the eyes and jaw, with high cheekbones, like Kristen Stewart, Katherine Hepburn, Peter Wentz and Dane Cook.
Glasses: Generally all frames flatter this face... but a rimless frame or cat eye would draw attention to the cheekbones. Check out our cat eye and jackies glasses or some of our rimless styles.

Is your face square?

A strong jaw and a broad forehead, like Demi Moore, Sandra Bullock, David Beckham and Nick Lachey.
Glasses: To soften the face, try a narrow frame, with a round or oval shape. We have loads of oval styles!
